Our Reception Class is taught by Mrs Molloy, Mrs Parkinson and Miss Khan.

We are very honoured to have Mrs Joan Lord as our class Governor.

She visits our class on a regular basis.

activities that we have been doing in Reception.

Welcome to our Reception classroom!

In our classroom, there are different areas of provision that the children can access independently or with their friends. Adults in class constantly model play skills, develop language and move the learning of the children on using next steps. Children also completed 'focussed activities' with an adult - this can be 1:1 or in small groups.

Areas of provision include : sand, water, creative, small world, construction, ICT, role play, messy, writing, maths and fine motor.

We also have an enclosed outdoor area which the children access during continuous provision.

Learning Cultures in Reception

We have a whole school approach to learning cultures at St. James'. These have been adapted to suit the needs of our children in Reception. Over the year, we will use several of the Kagan structures during our carpet time. We will also develop our thinking skills using De Bono's thinking hats. The children are constantly encouraged to develop skills to support their learning through the 5 R's - responsibility, reflectiveness, resourcefulness, resilience and readiness. We have five cute characters to help us with this! The children are constantly encouraged to 'have a try on their own first', 'try again, don't give up', 'show they are ready to listen' and to 'choose it - use it- put it away!'
