Safeguarding and Child Protection

Safeguarding

Everyone at St. James'shares an objective to help keep children and young people safe by contributing to:

  • providing a safe environment in which children and young people can learn;

  • identifying children and young people who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm, and taking appropriate action with the aim of making sure they are kept safe both at home and at school.

Achieving this objective requires us to:

  • prevent unsuitable people from working with children and young people;

  • promote safe practice and challenge poor and unsafe practice;

  • identify instances in which there are grounds for concern about a child's welfare, and initiate or take appropriate action to keep them safe;

  • contribute to effective partnership working between all those involved with providing services for children and young people.

We are fully committed to the safety and welfare of our pupils.  As such, staff undertake annual updates on safeguarding to ensure we are up-to-date with current information and expectations.  This September, staff completed training under the new Keeping Children Safe in Education 2016 document.  This replaces the previous version of KCSIE 2015.
