Sports Premium Funding

Our provisionally Sports Premium Funding for the academic year 17-18 is £8645. Please click the link above to see the impact report for 16-17 and how we provisionally intent to spend our budget in 17-18.

Last year our Sports Premium Funding was to the amount of £8600 for the academic year 2016-17.

The main aim for using this funding has been to increase the participation in school sport at St. James’. Outlined below is how the money has been spent in many  different ways to improve the school’s provision of PE and sport.

The funding allocations continued to be spent in similar ways to previous years.

FUNDA

We continued to employ coaches from FUNDA, a small team of children’s physical education specialists based in Burnley.

The coaches provided support through:

  • Delivering the PE curriculum with teachers from Reception to Class 5
  • Running After School Clubs and sports activities at lunchtimes for children in KS1 and KS2
  • Supporting Miss Fallows with running a Badminton After School Club and Football training for Rossendale School Sports Partnerships Competitions which a FUNDA coach attended
  • Suggesting sports equipment required
  • Awarding certificates to children for their achievements in PE lessons each week and names published in the school’s weekly newsletter

Accrington Stanley Community Trust

We renewed our contract with Accrington Stanley Community Trust to provide After School Clubs for children in KS1 and KS2. The sessions were popular with the children. However, due to the coaches only having the required qualifications in Football and some new coaches lacking experience, it was decided to cancel the sessions.

Swimming

The provision of Swimming lessons continued as part of the sports curriculum in KS2.

Shin pads

Shin pads were bought for the Rossendale School Sports Partnerships Y5/6 Football Competition at Fearns Community Sports College in October 2015. They will be used in future clubs and competitions e.g. Football, Hockey, Cricket etc.

Rossendale School Sports Partnerships

We continued to buy into the Rossendale School Sports Partnerships which has supported the school with the sports provision in several ways through:

  • Coaching of different sports in KS2 classes including: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Table Tennis, Tag Ruby, Tri Golf
  • Organising Level 1 and Level 2 Competitions
  • Arranging PE Co-ordinator meetings
  • Offering CPD courses
  • Providing Play Leaders training for all Year 5 pupils
  • Delivering Young Ambassador Training
  • Attending Sports Crew Meetings
  • Creating links with staff from Haslingden High School and Go Velo who provided sessions during our Olympic Week
  • Assisting with applying for and obtaining the School Games Mark Silver Award

We also endeavour to give our children opportunities to experience different sports and outdoor experiences.  For example, we will be going to Robinwood this year to experience a variety of outdoor adventure activities.  Also, we aim to provide a netball club - please encourage your children to attend all these exciting activities.

Our teachers have gained experience through the expert teaching with others which will have a wonderful impact on our provision.  The children have experienced various sports and opportunities to explore their own skills in different ways.  We look forward to our children continung their exploration by continuing to try new sports as a lifelong journey.

How we use our sports funding: 2015-16

|
  • The Primary PE Sports Grant is funding in addition to the school’s budget. Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sports provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.
  • For the year 2015-16 the school received a grant of £8600

The school’s funding has been and will be used to provide:

  • 1 and a half days per week professional PE coach through ‘Funda’, which includes
  • PE for every class led by a professional coach
  • Audit of PE resources
  • Identification of areas for staff development
  • 1 inset session
  • 2 after-school clubs
  • Training of ‘lunch-time leaders
  • 2 after-school sessions per week provided by Acrrington Stanley FC Community Trust
  • Membership of Rossendale Sports Partnership, which includes
  • Coaching sessions in a range of sports throughout the year
  • Access to a range of inter-school competitions
  • Outdoor adventurous activity days for KS2
  • A range of sports provision during our annual Health and Fitness Week

How the sports premium has made a difference?

|
  • Staff have an increased knowledge of the PE curriculum
  • Lessons are better planned and delivered
  • Outcomes and success criteria are measured
  • Children have certain allocated time for PE
  • Basic PE skills have improved over time
  • Children's understanding of the need for a healthy fit lifestyle has increased
  • Increased enjoyment of sport
  • Teamwork has developed over time

The legacy of the input from Funda will ensure quality PE provision is sustainable for the foreseeable future.
