This week our focus book has been The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We are learning about the life cycle of the butterfly. The children have been really engaged in this story, especially with all the food the caterpillar eats. We have learnt how a caterpillar comes from an egg, eats to grow bigger, builds a cocoon around itself and stays inside for two weeks and then turns into a beautiful butterfly. Todays activity saw the children investigate how to make their own caterpillars and then make them grow.
The children coloured the paper towels in stripes, using the story book for reference, and then rolled them into a caterpillar shape around a stick. After removing the stick the children placed their caterpillar on the tray. Then using a pipette and water they added drops of water onto the caterpillar. As the water soaked into the paper towel the children witnessed their caterpillars growing. Amazing.
