This week in nursery we have been learning about Bonfire Night and how to keep ourselves safe when holding sparklers and going to a bonfire. In our learning time we discussed how to keep ourselves safe by standing back from a bonfire, wearing gloves when holding a sparkler and putting it into a bucket of water due them being really hot. We talked about how only grownups can handle fireworks and how we don’t touch them. We also learnt that we have to keep ourselves safe by pets safe, as they don’t like fireworks and bonfires.
The children have been matching the correct coloured lolly sticks to create fireworks, they have been creating fireworks mark making patterns in the sand. We have been causing exploding firework paintings using tea bags dipped in paint and dropped to create the effect. We made our own chocolate apples and explored how chocolate changes from a solid to a liquid when melted. We then realised that it went back to a solid. Together we made our own bonfire, and made fireworks by matching the numeral to the amount, or by colour.
